Australia is literally surrounded by beaches, but arguably the best ones are in New South Wales and Queensland, although most other states could contest otherwise. But the one thing that cannot be denied is that if someone wants to travel to Australia for the beaches, they are not heading to Victoria or South Australia unless they are hardcore surfers. People generally think of the southern states as cold and uninviting which isn’t true, however, it is appreciated worldwide that some of the best beaches in the world are along the northeast coast of Australia.
New South Wales boasts places such as Bondi Beach, Manly Beach, and Balmoral Beach, to name but a few.
Bondi Beach
This is one of the most famous beaches in the world. With its illustrious promenades and a wide variety of cafes and bars, it is certainly a place to go to and enjoy. It is known as a safe place with multiple life-saving clubs operating in the area and the active beach-goer will be there for the annual Miss Bondi beauty pageant. The beach is not far from the center of the Sydney CBD, so it is relatively easy to get to if you are in town, which is what most people tend to do. There is a skatepark for the young guns and the older folk can walk along the promenade and enjoy a drink. If you have a family, you can simply enjoy relaxing on the beach itself and let the world carry on by while you enjoy yourselves.
Balmoral Beach
A very popular beach for a family-orientated trip is Balmoral Beach. It is a well-designated place for SCUBA divers and other sea-faring peopling including kayakers and wakeboarders. There are also a lot of picnic areas dotted along the well-maintained paths so there is no shortage of fun for a family trip.
Queensland’s beaches are also very well-known along with the tropical climate and are the location of the famous Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef. The Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef are two of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders. Located off the coast of Australia, these aquatic ecosystems are home to hundreds of species of fish, coral, and other sea life best explored when sailing the Whitsundays. The Whitsunday Islands are a group of islands in the Whitsunday chain, which stretch for miles along the eastern coast of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef is a series of coral reefs and islands located off the coast of Queensland and meets with the Whitsundays chain to form a truly unique vacation spot.
The Gold Coast
Queensland has an extensive number of things to do and most people tend to visit the state for the beach life. The Gold Coast is one example and arguably one of the most popular beach destinations in the world. There is no place better to discuss the State of Origin betting odds with your mates than on the beach, right near the border of these two rival sporting states. It is not only the scenery and clear blue waters that entice travelers, but it is also the welcoming local people that will no doubt make your visit memorable.
Surfers Paradise
With over a million people visiting a year on average, Surfers Paradise is exactly how it sounds: a surfer’s paradise. Prolific surfers come from all over the world to surf the waves there and none leave disappointed. Except for Bells Beach in Victoria and the multiple surf beaches in Hawaii, Surfers Paradise is one of the best places in the world to surf and is simply a nice place to relax on the beach and take in the sun.
At the end of the day, both places have their ups and downs when it comes to enjoying time on the beach. With these northern beaches, however, there are a lot more ups than downs as anyone who has been there will attest to that. The most important thing to take into account is to have a good time and not spend too much time debating which places are better because each place is beautiful in its own way.
