With the Samsung Galaxy S22 out of the way, our attention is now focused on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 foldable, which will be released in August – and it appears that the former will receive a significant camera boost.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 will have a 108MP main camera, according to seasoned Samsung tipster Dohyun Kim(opens in new tab) (via Notebookcheck.net(opens in new tab)). That mirrors what we saw in the Galaxy S22 Ultra variant, and it’s a significant improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s 12MP main camera sensor.
We learned earlier this week from another source that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 will also use the 10MP 3x optical zoom telephoto lens found on the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, giving us a better sense of the camera system on the next foldable.
What we think we know so far
As the month of August approaches, we’re hearing more and more about what the Galaxy Z Fold 4 might have in store. If Samsung gets this right, it could be the best foldable device on the market for a long time.
When it comes to selfie cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to keep the same in-display camera as its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 3. There have also been rumors that the price may drop this year.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to have S Pen functionality, and unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 3, it may even have a dock for the pen. As we come closer to the planned introduction in a few months, expect to learn more about the foldable phone.
Analysis: foldable phones continue to catch up
There’s no denying that purchasing a foldable smartphone will cost you more in other ways. For starters, your bank account will be much lower, and the foldable now on the market don’t always match up to traditional flagships in key areas, such as camera quality.
That’s understandable: getting a phone screen to fold is a complicated and difficult engineering process, and you’d expect other components to be pared down for technical reasons and to keep the total device’s cost down.
Foldable phones, on the other hand, are swiftly catching up to the standard smartphone, as this new rumor demonstrates. If you want to buy a foldable Samsung phone instead of a non-folding one, you may soon have to pay only a small price increase.
Hopefully, as time goes on, more and more foldable solutions will become available to consumers. While the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to receive a number of enhancements this time around, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to have fewer changes, which should result in a lower pricing point.
