A$AP Bari’s Label, VLONE Proved That Fashion Shows Are Pointless (But We Still Need Them)

VLONE Fashion Shows

VLONE’s 11th show in a series of runway presentations for the street wear line was fully deserving of its hype. The New York-based company has proven that fashion shows are not pointless, but instead provide us with something special to look forward too!

The collection was small, the clothing ordinary, and the presentation was more confusing than exciting.

The show started 20 minutes late and ended abruptly after only five looks, with a long list of scheduled attendees never even making it inside for the whole thing.

It didn’t help that most of what we actually saw had been seen somewhere else before–a bomber here, a hoodie there–nothing special or unique enough to justify all this fuss in just one hour’s time.

But maybe I’m wrong about VLONE being pointless because at least it made me appreciate shows like Off-White and Eckhaus Latta so much more!

VLONE is a brand that’s mostly exclusive to Bari’s own VLONE.LLC, and the clothes are never sold in stores or available anywhere else online.

So why do they even bother having runway shows at all? I’m not sure, but it definitely worked for them this time!

Anyway, the VLONE presentation wasn’t really about the clothes at, all, it was more about the hype and buzz around them.

The show proved that fashion week is getting increasingly out of sync with modern consumers and has become less about clothes and more about hype and social media. Still, we need shows like this to bring attention to these brands!

For proof of VLONE’s popularity during fashion week you can look at Bari’s Instagram where he posted a photo from inside his own front row (he invited only close friends).

Sooooo…I guess shows aren’t pointless after all? They might not be worth the money or time invested but they make for great stories later on which is why we still need them, right?

VLONE proved that fashion shows are pointless (but we still need them). As the industry becomes increasingly out-of sync with modern consumers, it’s not just clothes anymore. There’s also all this hype about what you should wear and where to buy these items from! The show VLONE put on was small yet amazing at once–fashioned by ordinary people who made something extraordinary happen in an ordinary space.”
