With the huge number of horse breeds and draft horse breeds that exist from the earlier generation to present, identifying one horse breed from another would take years to master. is because most of the horses have mixed breeds and only a few records could confirm their origin.

Categorization of horse breeds can be much easier as to their colors, continental origin, temperament and etc. As such, we have chosen to carefully classify some horse breeds according to their most common role and purpose in general in our society.

The light type of horses:

When we say a light type of horses, these are typically the horses that are widely used for the purpose of recreational sports and horse shows. They greatly influence a huge number of horse breeds for their purpose of earning a huge fee and prizes in various events and competition. These type of horses descend from the Arabian type of horse such as the Appaloosa, Buckskin, Thoroughbred, Palomino, Morgan, Standardbred, American Paint Horse, American Quarter Horse and Peruvian Horse that may vary in size, height, weight, build and color but are primarily bred for speed, agility and endurance for a common purpose to become a saddle horse. The light type of horses is also considered as “hot-blooded” as such they are easily excited and are full of energy. Gaited horses are also light type horses. These are the horses that are in its finest when it comes to gentleness, gait, and the ability to perform a smooth walk, trot and gallop as if they are dancing. These horses typically are the favorite rides for generals, plantation owners, officers, and wealthy people.

The heavy type of horses:

A heavy type of horse is basically bred for the purpose of agricultural and carrying heavy loads. As such, they are called a draft horse. The category name implies their characteristics as being the heaviest types of horses who are trained for productivity. They also have a broader physique, a hardy type of cold-blooded horses whose endurance is proven to last. They undoubtedly have great strength and stamina to carry heavy loads and survive heavy labors. Examples of this type are the Shire, Clydesdale, Percheron, Suffolk, Ardennes, American Belgian Horse, and Irish Draught.

Pony type of horses:

Pony type horses are commonly the cute and smaller breeds of horses that are less than 14.2 hands who are very smart to become independent on their own and do not require the owner to diligently watch over them as often as other horse breeds need. There are over a hundred breeds of ponies. Ponies are incredibly versatile little horses that they are also ideal mount for children’s horseback riding experiences. The pony type horses are generally bred for the purpose of almost any various activities such as riding, jumping, pulling, packing, plowing and even ranch work. Examples of these types are the Hackney Pony, Welsh Mountain Pony, Shetland Pony, Connemara Pony, Australian Pony, Dales, Garrano, and Icelandic Pony.
