India National Film Awards used to be given out in May. But because of the new coronavirus pandemic, it was pushed back last year by a year and this year by a couple of months. The winners were named at a press conference on July 22 at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. On Friday, July 22, the winners’ names were announced at the 68th National Film Awards. Â
Suriya and Ajay Devgn won the National Award for Best Actor for their roles in Soorarai Pottru and Tanhaji, respectively. Aparna Balamurali won the National Award for Best Actress for her role in Soorarai Pottru. Madhya Pradesh was given the National Award for Most Film-Friendly State, and Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were given special mention. The film director Priyadarshan was in charge of this category’s jury.
