Shazam didn’t look like a superhero movie that could compete with the rest. At first, many people thought that DC had messed up by putting a comedian in the role of a comic book hero and that this was too silly to compete with Marvel. However, as soon as it hit theaters, it proved the opposite to be true, becoming a box-office hit and shutting critics’ mouths.

The story of the boy who can call a superhero by shouting his name was just what we all needed, and it was so much fun that DC didn’t wait to start thinking about a sequel. Now, Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel and accompanied by Jack Dylan Grazer) and his friends are about to return to the big screen for a new epic adventure that promises to be bigger than the last.

Warner Bros. said that Shazam 2 release date will be December 21, 2022. This means that it won’t go up against Marvel Phase 4 movies, but it could go up against Phase 5.

Shazam was nothing like the dark and serious style that Marvel had set for superhero movies, which worked in its favor. In the first movie, Zachary Levi plays Billy, a teen who can turn into an adult hero by saying a magic word. Billy and Shazam help save the world from the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana with the help of their foster brothers. However, the scene after the credits showed that this was only the beginning and that this unlikely group of heroes would have to work together again to save the world.

This wasn’t the highest-grossing movie of the year, and it doesn’t have as many fans as other superhero movies, but it did get a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and fans definitely want to see what this sequel is all about.

The trailer

At San Diego Comic-Con, a trailer for the sequel to Shazam was shown. In it, Billy questions whether he is the right person to be a hero, comparing his situation to that of Aquaman or Batman, while also trying to deal with the fact that his “brothers” also have powers.

In this trailer, we see Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren for the first time as the Daughters of Atlas. They are determined to kill Billy and get the gods’ power back.

When it comes out: The movie will be shown for the first time on December 21 of this year.

What’s next for Billy and Shazam? This is all we know.

The new villain

The Hollywood Reporter says that Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar, has just joined the cast and will play the new bad guy in the story. Hespera is Atlas’s daughter, and the actress will play her in the play. Rachel Zegler, who is supposed to play Helen Mirren’s sister in Steven Spielberg’s version of West Side Story, also joined the cast.

Deadline confirmed that, in addition to Mirren, Lucy Liu from the show Elementary will also be in the sequel. She will play the bad guy Kalypso, who is the sister of Mirren’s character, but it’s not clear yet how they’ll cause trouble for Mirren. DC hero .

The same cast are back

We don’t know what this sequel will be about yet, but before Warner confirmed it, they said that the original cast and crew were interested in coming back and had signed a contract for multiple movies, though it’s not clear if they’ll keep the same manager.

This means that Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, and Jack Dylan Grazer will all be back to play their roles in the sequel, along with the new actors. Both the director, David Sandberg, and Peter Safran have said in the past that they would like to come back. Considering how well the first movie did, it would make sense for Warner to choose to work with them again.

Freddy Freeman will be played by Jack Dylan Grazer, Mary Bromfield by Grace Fulton, Eugene Choi by Ian Chen, Pedro Pea by Jovan Armand, and Darla Dudley again by Faithe Herman.

The first picture of the superhero team shows what each character will be wearing. It also shows that Shazam won’t be fighting bad guys alone anymore, since the kids of the bad guys can now join his team.

What’s going to happen in the next part?

There isn’t an official plot summary yet, but after Shazam beats Dr. Sivana, the bad guy is back in his cell in the scene after the credits. Here, the bad guy meets Mister Mind, a comic book supervillain who looks like a caterpillar and is very smart. Since Sivana is often a member of Mister Mind’s Monster Society of Evil in the comics, this could be the threat they face in the sequel.

“Oh, we’re going to have so much fun together. We’re about to get the seven kingdoms “Mister Mind tells Sivana, which could set up the plot of the second movie. These seven kingdoms are in the comics, and they all have something to do with the Rock of Eternity. In the future, Shazam could go into these worlds.

And we can’t say for sure that we won’t see the Seven Deadly Sins again, even though they were defeated but not destroyed in upcoming DC Comics.
