Jim Carrey, best known for his comedic roles, has announced his retirement from acting in favor of “the tranquil life.” This year, the actor will star in Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which could be his final film role. Jim’s statement came just hours after Bruce Willis, the action icon, declared his retirement from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia.

In the early 1990s, Jim Carrey rose to prominence thanks to a recurrent appearance on the comedic television series In Living Color. He went on to star in films including The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, and A Christmas Carol, among others. He was last seen on cinema in the 2020 film Sonic the Hedgehog as Dr. Robotnik.

Singer Dolly Parton, who recently appeared on Access Hollywood, quipped that she would love Jim to star in her biopic. Jim, who was also a guest, reacted to this by saying, “So, I’m stepping down. Yes, most likely. I’m taking this very seriously. If the angels deliver me a screenplay written in gold ink that indicates it’s going to be very important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but for now, I’m taking a break.”

The actor went on to say that he wished to live a tranquil life away from Hollywood’s glare. “I really enjoy my quiet life, and I really enjoy painting on canvas, and I really enjoy my spiritual life, and I feel like—and you’ll never hear another celebrity say this as long as time exists—I’ve had enough. Enough is enough. I am sufficient,” he stated.

Aside from humorous parts, the actor has also starred in a number of critically praised dramatic films, including The Truman Show and Man on the Moon. For these roles, he received Golden Globe nominations. His portrayal in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a science fiction romance, is often regarded as his best.

Despite his box office success and numerous accolades, he has never been nominated for an Academy Award. He was rated one of the top actors who never received an Oscar nomination by The Guardian in 2009.
