New travel restrictions have been issued by the French government due to new Covid variant, Omicron, which will take effect on Saturday.
Xinhua news agency said, in addition to France’s green-orange-red classification method for nations based on their coronavirus pandemic situation, the government has issued a new scarlet list that includes ten southern African countries.
According to the Interior Ministry, nations on the scarlet list have particularly active virus circulation and/or the discovery of a variation that may provide a danger of greater transmissibility.
French citizens are “strongly advised” against traveling to nations on the “scarlet” and “red” lists, according to the government, unless they have “compelling grounds” to do so.
All arrivals from countries on the “green”, “orange”, and “red” lists must show proof of a negative PCR (polymerase chain reaction) or antigen test issued at least 48 hours prior to travel.
Travelers to and from “scarlet” countries and the United Kingdom must show proof of a negative PCR or antigen test done 24 hours before departure. Upon arrival, they will also be exposed to a coronavirus test.
Those who test positive are required to quarantine at hotels provided by the French government.
