Microsoft said on Tuesday that Windows 11 will be available on October 5 for both existing PCs and new PCs that come pre-installed with the operating system.
“PCs that come pre-loaded with Windows 11 will start to become available for purchase, and the free upgrade to Windows 11 will begin rolling out to eligible Windows 10 PCs. Windows 11, a new Windows experience, is meant to bring you closer to the things you care about “In a statement, the tech giant stated.
Just like previous Windows 10 feature updates, the distribution of Windows 11 will be gradual and phased.
After October 5, users can check for a device upgrade to Windows 11 by going to Settings > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates. Windows 11, which was released in July, has a cleaner look and layouts for snapping apps to the screen, more comprehensive widgets, a redesigned Microsoft Store, and Android app support.
Basic requirements for running Windows 11 on a PC have already been announced by Microsoft. It will require a processor with two or more cores and a clock speed of at least 1GHz, as well as 4GB of RAM and at least 64GB of storage.
Windows 11 will officially support Intel Core X-series, Xeon W-series, and Intel Core 7820HQ processors, according to the company.
