Guggimon, a terrifying-looking bunny creature who also happens to be a virtual influencer with millions of followers on sites like Instagram and TikTok, was one of the more intriguing additions to Fortnite last season. Guggimon was made by Superplastic, a business that has previously collaborated with the Gorillaz, and now it’s introducing another of their characters to the battle royale: Janky, a streetwear cat (I believe?) who will be accessible in the Fortnite item shop starting tonight.

Fortnite’s ever-expanding metaverse has progressively spread to just about every element of pop culture, from sports to music to superheroes, which may seem like an odd fit. With all of this going on, some CG figures who collaborate with Gucci and participate in Christie’s NFT drops don’t seem out of place. It’s also part of a larger trend of virtual influencers expanding their reach beyond social media to include music videos, press conferences, and real installations.
